Until recently, those who didn't like last year's changes to Google Maps (maps.google.com) were able to revert to the old-style interface by clicking the question-mark icon at the bottom right and selecting ‘Return to classic Google Maps'. That option has now been removed. But you can switch to a new hidden Lite mode by going to https://www.google.com/maps/lite,which disables some of Google Maps‘ features. notably 3D views. Google Earth. distance measuring and My Maps. The benefit is that maps themselves load much faster. To switch between Lite and normal mode. click the lightning bolt icon and select ‘Switch to Lite mode' or ‘Switch back to full Maps’.
If you remain unconvinced by the new Google Maps or its Lite version it's still possible to switch to proper classic mode by visiting www.google.com/lochp. However, you‘ll be greeted by an ominous message informing you that ‘This version of Google Maps is updating soon‘. You have been warned!
