Does your PC have both a solid-state drive (SSD) and a hard drive? If so, when Windows 10 is installed on the SSD, applying Anniversary Update can trigger a bug. Microsoft will push out a fix soon, though putting up with the problem means you could lose data at any time. Windows 10 will automatically download and install the fix when it's ready, but you can check by clicking Start followed by the cog icon (Settings). and then 'Update & security' followed by Windows Update. Now click 'Check for updates'.
An alternative is to use a free tool like HD Clone 6 (bit.ly/2d2QvAK) to clone your SSD on to a standard hard drive and boot from that temporarily, but that assumes you have a spare drive, and are prepared to go through the hassle.
We might've suggested rolling back to the previous Windows build but, with Anniversary Update, Microsoft reduced the rollback period to Just 10 days so it's too late for you. For the benefit of other readers who have installed the update in the past 10 days, wait for your PC's login screen to appear then press and hold the Shift key, click Power and then click Restart. When the 'Choose an option screen' appears, click Troubleshoot followed by Advanced Options and then 'Go back to the previous build'. Then follow the prompts.
